SB.TV Ones To Watch: Fleur

If you managed to catch one of DJ Fresh’s huge festival appearances this Summer then no doubt you’ll have been blown away by this week’s ‘SB.TV Ones To Watch’ vocalist Fleur, who after what she’s described as an “apprenticeship” performing in FRESH:Live, is all set for success with her own solo career…

Having been around music from a very young age, her parents playing a lot of Michael Jackson, Bob Marley and Simply Red around the house, Fleur was given a keyboard at the age of just three years old, and spent her childhood playing around with the instrument and making up songs. But it was around the age of 16 that the East Londoner decided to make her hobby into a career and began to perform with girl bands, one of which made it to the live shows on X-Factor with Simon Cowell as her mentor.

However, after gaining the confidence of working as part of a group, Fleur quickly outgrew it and realised that her dream was to do it alone, and her own career as a solo artist has been the main focus of the past year. Of course she hasn’t spent all of this time alone, when she was invited to tour with DJ Fresh after performed with him for his Radio 1 Live Lounge session last year, she couldn’t turn it down, and it has lead to her recording a session with him which lead to a feature on his new album Nextlevelism.

Fleur recently released her first single as a solo artist recently with the Cutline assisted Broken Mirror explaining that the song is an introduction to what she is about, fusing all of her influences and emerging with something she describes as “urban with a twist, sometimes bringing in elements of Drum n Bass or Dubstep.” The song was originally written as a love song, with just lyrics and a melody, but was brought to life when it was given to Bristol-based production duo Cutline.

Following up to that, later this year is her official debut single Turn The Lights On which recently made it’s radio debut on Friction’s show. The Culture Shock produced track, develops upon this style, incorporating further elements of her influence including rap, and she explains that this builds upon the introduction that was set with Broken Mirror. As well as the release of the new single Fleur is set to perform a number of solo shows, and tour with DJ Fresh in support of his new album into early 2013.
