Mixtape Monday

Mixtape Monday [17/9/12]

0

After a very heavy mixtape release schedule the week before, last week was a lot quieter, with only one big name release from the US in the form of Waka Flocka’s latest release. However on the homegrown front, we saw plenty of action, with three new tapes dropping right here at SB.TV as well as the new mixtape from ‘SB.TV Ones To Watch’ Cyko Logic, and an eclectic DJ mix from London based Distinction

Waka Flocka Flame – Salute Me Or Shoot Me 4: Banned From America

Having focussed a little more towards the mainstream with his latest release Triple F Life album, it’s reassuring to hear that the latest instalment of Salute Me Or Shoot Me takes it back to the raw, relentless, uncalculated mayhem of his album debut, Flockaveli and the material that lead up to it. The Brick Squad representer brings some friends along to the party, with guest verses from Brick Squad general Gucci Mane, Wale, Roscoe Dash, Yo Gotti, Trae Tha Truth, Chief Keef and more.

Distinction – /mɪkst#1/ By Distinction

After leaking a couple of well-received new remixes from his upcoming RVST mixtape, London-based producer and DJ, Distinction dropped a new mix last week to keep fans happy until the highly anticipated projects release. The mix sets the scene for what’s to come; aiming to seamlessly bridge the gap between dubstep, grime, hip-hop and trap, by merging their definig traits across an eclectic mix which features tracks from the likes of Baauer, Girl Unit, TNGHT, Redlight, Danny Brown, Darq E Freaker and Diplo, as well as Distinction’s own remixes of tracks by Frank Ocean and Usher.

Harry Shotta – Moonlight Hustle

One of the scenes hardest working MC’s, Harry Shotta dropped his new mixtape last week exclusively here at SB.TV. The project demonstrates Harry’s versatility as an artist as he spits over a variety of different instrumentals and tempos, with production coming courtesy of Preston Play, Red Skull, Rees Beats, Crissy Criss, NSD and more, and with features from the likes of Little Dee, Mynature, Navigator and Hipman Junkie. As well as showing off his ridiculous flow and lyrical abilities, Shotta also explores some deeper concepts and song structures, consolidating himself as a very well rounded homegrown talent.

Cyko Logic – #Undeniable

Another artist from the UK showing off his diversity this week, is previous ‘SB.TV Ones To Watch’ featured artist, Cyko Logic, who put out his new mixtape #Undeniable last week, boasting a range of tracks from 140bpm Grime efforts to more mainstream dance cuts with great crossover potential, adapting his flows and rhyming patterns along the way. And if all of that isn’t enough to get you to hit download, he is also entering everyone who downloads the project from his site into a prize draw to win a holiday for two in Ibiza, so head over there and enjoy some great homegrown talent!
