What with everyone getting into the Olympic spirit, Nicki Minaj has revealed that the London 2012 Olympics inspired one of the tracks on her latest album…
Masquerade, which features on the deluxe edition of Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, was originally written with a performance at the games in mind and has now been lent to the new Adidas Originals advert, in which Nicki appears alongside Big Sean and South Korean girl group 2NE1.
Nicki told Rolling Stone that Masquerade reflects the mindset on an Olympic champion: “‘Masquerade’, to me, feels like the Olympics. When Adidas came to me, they mentioned the Olympics.”
“They mentioned maybe having a performance at the Olympics, and I just put my brain into the mind frame of, ‘What does a champion feel like? What is the inner conversation of a champion?’”
She added: “The song is about feeling inspired to win and to never give up and I feel like the Adidas campaign, that’s what it’s really about: giving people hope and, you know, that’s what I wanted to convey in the song.”
Chicago Bulls player Derrick Rose also appears in the advert, which aired earlier this month.
Well, we’d love to see Nicki at the Olympics, but we wonder what the Queen would make of her performance.
