Devlin: Dizzee Rascal Turned his back on Grime

Devlin’s recent success with Watchtower has once again brought him into mainstream attention. But the east Londoner has revealed that he doesn’t want to be a popstar and unlike Dizzee Rascal, he wonít turn his back on grime…

When asked if he ever saw himself becoming a popstar he said:

“Never in a million years. I started doing this as an outlet for my energy. I got called the best in the ends but had no money in my pockets. Now Watchtower is Radio 1 A-list. It’s mad.”

Devlin went on to talk about the growth of the UK urban scene and Dizzee’s decision to go mainstream saying:

“To see the way it’s grown from when Dizzee Rascal crossed over is amazing but he kind of turned his back on grime. People like Stryder and Chipmunk paved the way for my music, even though I wouldn’t do what they do. The unity in UK urban music now is so strong and positive”
