Undoubtedly one of the biggest labels in US hip hop right now is Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group imprint, which is beginning to diversify nicely after having signed Wale, Meek Mill, Stalley and now Illinois’ Rockie Fresh…
Known for incorporating an alternative rock influence to his music, Rockie Fresh has had success over the past four years from his four critically acclaimed mixtapes the previous two (Otherside Redux and Driving 88) of which have attracted the attention of not only Ross, but also P. Diddy, who was attempting to sign Fresh to Bad Boy before he ultimately went with MMG.
With Chicago currently a focal point in hip hop due to rowdy gangster rappers like Chief Keef, Rockie Fresh brings a more emotional alternative side to proceedings; think a rockier version of Kanye’s College Dropout. And with the backing from MMG now behind him is preparing to make what he assures will be a classic debut album.
Rockie is now preparing to go on tour in support of fellow MMG rapper Meek Mill before setting off on his own tour in August which will coincide with the release of his next mixtape Electric Highway which is sure to break him through to the masses, then we are sure that a considerably larger fan base will be highly anticipating the young rapper’s studio album debut.
