Ashley Chin and Michael Maris of Sket and Anuvahood write and star in Victim, the new urban thriller set to hit cinemas this Spring…
The gritty drama sees Tyson [Ashley Chin] struggling to look after his little sister whilst paying off his mum’s gambling debts. Armed robberies with his friends Jason [Michael Maris] and Mannie [Jason Maza] seem to be the only way he can keep his head above water, then Tia [Ashley Madekwe] comes along and shows Tyson a way out – a way to stop being a victim of his circumstances and live his life as an example to his sister. However, before Tyson can leave the street life behind, he must take one last job to secure his future.
Victim follows in the footsteps of Top Boy and Anuvahood as another slice of really good, home-grown, British talent. Great writing with a tight plot and a relevant message, it plays with the idea of victims and victors – is it as simple as having good guys and bad guys or is everybody a victim of something? The acting is on point with a strong supporting cast that have productions such as Homeland and 4,3,2,1 on their CVs – look out for a particularly hilarious cameo from Adam Deacon.
There have been a lot of films and series set in the hood, but SB.TV definitely feel Victim delivers an honest and realistic view of life on road. Without preaching and without glamourising, Victim makes you wonder about the consequences of the choices made in this fast-paced thriller with plenty of action, but quite a few laughs too.
