By now you’ve probably heard of Urban Development. You may have witnessed those in the know whispering about the organisation in the past few months, but now those whispers have turned into a deafening roar…
Urban Development is a Stratford based organisation supporting London’s up and coming urban talent. With mentoring and seminars, emerging artists are given assistance in their field. Also on offer are training courses for vocalists, MCs, DJs and producers whether they are beginners or advanced in their craft. Urban Development allows musicians to create and record music despite lacking their own resources. It’s not just musicians that are advised on their future career paths but producers, songwriters and industry professionals, including journalists and A&Rs.
If you are considering a job in the music industry, Urban Development has got it covered. UDiscuss seminars regularly take place, allowing young people to build valuable contacts. But if you simply want to find out more about working in the industry, the How To Steal My Job section provides free advice that many would be willing to pay for. SB.TV’s Managing Director, Liam Tootill, recently gave his two cents on how to climb up the ladder.

Urban Development allow young people to enter their field at a young age, with the support to prevent them making mistakes that could hold them back from their dreams. The team of established professionals have a great passion for music, which creates a relaxed environment easy to work in. With several members of staff already established in their fields, which include PR and A&R, there is also the chance you’ll catch the eye of someone influential.
Established artists from the scene, like Ghetts and Devlin, regularly get involved with Urban Development events, including Urban East, ILUVLIVE and Unplugged Sessions. It is their aim to develop the live UK music scene on a local and national scale. First and foremost they are supporters of British music and keen to shape the stars of tomorrow.
Urban Development’s next Industry Takeover day takes place on April 16th 2011 with SB.TV’s Creative Director, Paris Zarcilla and Commercial Director, Rick Tank will be leading a Masterclass in Company Branding, while Liam Tootill will be talking on one of the seminar panels. If you have an interest in working in the urban music scene, this is an event you can’t afford to miss.
