Last night, the UK’s most influential music award show was held at the 02 Arena celebrating the best in British talent. Check out SB.TV’s review of the Brit Awards

This year the Brits seemed to revolve around the men as Tinie Tempah scooped British Breakthrough Act and Best British Single for Pass Out, two awards out of a possible four. It was also a successful night for Plan B who won his first ever Brit award for Best British Male.

The Master Card British Album of the Year award was the biggest surprise of the night as Mumford & Sons beat strong contenders like Plan B, Take That and Tinie Tempah. Another unexpected winner was Laura Marling as she triumphed over Cheryl Cole, Ellie Goulding and Paloma Faith to receive Best British Female. It was all joy for Jessie J, winner of the Critics Choice Award. She gave an emotional speech thanking all her fans for their support.

Following the win of Best Album at the Grammy’s, it was another big night for Arcade Fire, as they dominated the international awards. The American band beat heavyweights such as Cee Lo Green, Eminem, Kate Perry and Kings Of Leon to scoop Best International Album for The Suburbs. They also won the Best International Group award. Best International Female went to Rihanna, whilst Cee Lo Green picked up Best International Male. Making up for his Grammy’s disappointment, Justin Bieber won the International Breakthrough award.

The highlights of the ceremony however were the performances. Best British Group winners Take That opened the awards with an energetic military-themed performance. Plan B also went all out with his combination of She Said followed by Praying. As he sang the soulful tracks, choreographed scenes of fighting and rioting dominated the stage.

In contrast, with just a piano to accompany her, Adele gave a soothing performance of Someone Like You in which her effortless vocals captivated the audience. Once again, Rihanna’s saucy dancing mesmerized the audience as she performed Only Girl in the World and What’s My Name? Tinie Tempah delivered another amazing performance with a medley of Written In The Stars and Pass Out, which featured Labrinth as an added bonus. The impressive show closed with a bang as Cee Lo Green and Paloma Faith sang Forget You.

After such a grand celebration of British talent, we’re even more excited to see what’s coming in 2011!
