[NEWS] Team SB.TV’s New Year’s Honours List

0

If it’s good enough for the Queen, it’s good enough for SB.TV, right?! Good old Lizzie dished out her New Year’s honours to hundreds of celeb’s and ‘normal’ people, recognising outstanding achievement and service by them across the UK. Now members of the SB.TV fam bestow their New Year’s honours to the finest contributors to our happenings.

It’s about to get inspirational, and a bit emotional, up in here…

 …………

 JAMAL Edwards – SB.TV’s Founder & CEO

Brenda Edwards
Mum, singer & West End actress
“Mum helped me in some part get SB.TV on its feet by supplying me with a camera, giving birth to me and basically just helping out in general”

Liam Tootill
SB.TV
“Liam is my right hand man at SB.TV. He helps run it smoothly and is with me in picking it up off the ground to take it all over the world! Some things I wouldn’t be able to do without his guidance”

Ed Sheeran
Singer/songwriter/guitarist/loop pedal magician
“When I first met him about a year ago we filmed a video and now it’s blown up on the internet. Like most videos I never see the future with how big something is going to be but this one was defo a hot one and I see him making it large in 2011.”

Marvyn Harrison
“He’s the guy for many reasons… When I was getting into the record labels and stuff he would point me in the right direction. Marvyn was practically my mentor and I will never forget the contribution he made to SB.TV, my life, and entertainment as well with the big parties he throws!”

Charlie Lycett
All will be revealed but just remember that name!”

Georgia Lewis Anderson
SB.TV

“Last but by no means least, Georgia. I class her as a celebrity in her own right because she’s now smashing the presenting game and bought a whole different edge to SB.TV. Gwan Sista!”

LIAM Tootill – SB.TV’s Managing Director

Liam

Hattie Collins
RWD editor and i-D music editor
“My first shout out is to this fantastic hip-hopping journalist. H to the C has been a fantastic mentor and friend to me throughout 2010, and is the most authoritative voice when it comes to the UK’s thriving music scene. And it’s not only the UK. Hatts smashes up the journalistic game over the pond as well, having interviewed Dr. Dre, Kanye West, Drake, Nicki Minaj, GaGa and Alicia Keys et al in the past twelve months. Love and respect Sister!!”

Jenna Knight
Lucid PR
“I have to give this vote to Jenna Knight (kNIGHT, ginge) of Lucid PR. Throughout 2010 I was provided a shed load of opportunity by this girl [Labrinth, Professor Green, The Wanted, Loick Essien, Scorcher, Axwell, A-Trak, Bashy & Rox]. And even though she drives me mad, I wouldn’t be in the position I am today without her (and the rest of the Lucid gang – shout out Showbiz, Saf, Party Animal El, and Kat). These kids really are ‘PRs to the stars’. I love you all.”

GEORGIA Lewis Anderson – SB.TV’s Presenter

“I truly feel like I’ve been adopted by six brothers in the SB.TV team. It’s funny how things work out… I never could have predicted a year ago that I would have been in this position, making a new family and cracking jokes with celeb’s! While I could easily pen a paragraph on every one of they’ asses, special shout outs have to go to…

Jamal Edwards
SB.TV
“I don’t have a clue what it was in the shoddy show-reel I put together on Windows Media Maker that Jamal decided to go for but since running to a posh hotel to interview Kelly Rowland after an exam at Uni last summer my life has changed. It’s undoubtedly been a baptism of fire! Without even clocking it, Jamal’s given me the chance to hone my skills doing what I love. He’s provided me with some invaluable training that I never would have found anywhere else, and trusted me to become the face of company he worked so hard building. It’s really inspiring to see and be a part of the growth of something he started from his bedroom.”

Liam Tootill
SB.TV
“While we may not always see eye to eye I feel like Liam’s my right hand guy too. In the early days when Jamal’s confidence in me might have been wavering and I wasn’t sure what questions to ask, there’s no way I could have done it without Liam. I know I wouldn’t still be here if he hadn’t have believed in me too. Liam’s faith in me proper makes me believe in myself, and I think together we come up with some great ideas even though I know I annoy the hell out of him! He also works harder than a lot of people I know behind the scenes to make the brand what it is. I think his passion and hard work is really admirable.”

Marvyn Harrison
“He interviewed me alongside Jamal. There’s no way I’d be here if he hadn’t believed in me too. Before Kelly Rowland I was so nervous, we spent a lot of time chilling and practicing the interview. I think he’s generally one of the safest and most positive guys in the business.”

Ed Sheeran
“We’re the poshest people in the Grime scene! I feel like we have a bit of a connection as SB.TV kinda made us both! I don’t mingle too much in the industry, and I feel like Ed’s the guy I’ve met outside of the team that I crack jokes with the most. He always has nice things to say and it’s sick to see how well he’s doing. He’s also super-talented, unique and hilarious.”

“I feel a bit moesh!”

LANCE Penez – SB.TV’s Camera Op, Editor, Director

lance

Burial
“I can’t rate him enough, I’ve been listening to him for a long time but this year it was most relevant. He’s a source of so much inspiration and peace, his anonymous personality and his wise words in transcribed interviews just makes him this sick SW ghost of a musician. A true living enigma with an unprecedented London sound. Some of his tunes remind me of those old-school days falling asleep to pirate radio. As I had been away from London, this year Burial brought me back to remind me of the beauty of this city.”

Jamal Edwards
SB.TV
“The bossman! Even though the Nando’s sessions do enough to put him up there in my books, anybody that knows Jamal in the slightest has an immense amount of respect for him and it’s not just because he’s SB. He’s an all-round intelligent and grounded individual that never stops working. Jamal’s had to grow to impossible sizes to fulfil what he has created, and he’s achieving incredible things every step of the way. But aside from that I just want to big up the boy behind the ‘smokey barz’ hahahaha :p”

PARIS Zarcilla – SB.TV’s Creative Director

Paris

Kanye West
I read an interview with him the other day and I felt that a lot of his goals and values are aligned to my own… and his new album (My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy) is outstanding”.

Mark Chiu
Rapper
“Mark set up projects for youth centres around London based on ‘Active Citizenship’.  His most recent project involved a youth group from Copley/Ealing North where he encouraged them to speak their minds on personal and current issues that affect their everyday lives through the effectiveness of music and lyrics. He provided them with Hip Hop/Grime beats and they recorded songs aimed at their local MP. Their efforts resulted in a meeting with the MP who came down to listen to their tracks.”

Liam Tootill
SB.TV
“His hard work and contributions to SB.TV have not always seen a direct result or the praise it deserves, but his continuing and relentless efforts have without a doubt made SB.TV a stronger and more respectable brand. I believe his input will continue to strengthen us as a team and a brand this year, and in many more to come.”

JAMES Hanna – SB.TV’s Director & Producer

james

My honouree’s have deffo played a major role in enabling me to do what I do…

Liam Tootill
SB.TV
“It’s often hard to receive recognition for the sort of work Liam had been doing for SB.TV for such a long time. Even before I joined the team almost a year ago, he had been there for over a year longer running around tying up loose ends for Jamal. Liam has enabled SB.TV to be portrayed as the professional media outlet it so needed to be in order to gain the reputation it has today.

I remember Liam and I co-directing the shoot at Professor Green’s album launch and not really knowing each other so well back then; but we got on so well and clicked together because we shared, and STILL share, the same vision for SB.TV. The banter over a beer or three was funny too! I really respect the fact that without seeing any direct recognition for his work he still persevered and got on with the job. Liam’s played an integral role in taking SB.TV to its 30 million plus views as much as anyone else. I’m sure the SB.TV New Era will see things change for Liam, and he’ll be credited accordingly.”

Melina Matsoukas
Music Video Director
“She’s not an artist in the sense of providing music directly, but with regards to providing visuals and bringing together the beauty of the visual art with musical art, Melina is an inspiration. Many will have seen the music videos she’s directed – she has an impressive CV including Snoop Dogg and Rhianna to name a few.

“We had the chance to interview Melina towards the end of last year and, for me, she was one of my favourites. She shares a similar background to me in terms of her aspirations, achievements and where her passion lies. For anyone who’s young, expresses a strong interest in media production, and is not quite sure if it really is possible to make a name for their selves, Melina tells a great story.”
